Gallery 1979 announces its first collectible design group exhibition, Transmatter, curated by Lizzy Li. The exhibition brings together design works from eight artist and collectives from Italy, Germany, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and China. Starting from the inorganic nature of materials themselves, each artist interprets the unique narratives carried by materials before and after their “transformation,” drawing from their own cultural backgrounds and personal experiences. The exhibited works incorporate a variety of recycled materials: reclaimed rubber, recycled glass from beer bottles, construction waste, iron furnace slag, biodegradable cardboard, wood scrap and waste paper, gardening clay particles, and even raw minerals from remote mountains. These seemingly ordinary materials are transformed by the artists into installations, furniture, and artworks, delving into the memories and deeper meanings behind each material.
Niceworkshop presents the ALUMINUM FORMWORK SERIES, a furniture collection developed from aluminum formwork used in concrete construction. Aluminum formwork (“AL –FORM”) is used to create various types of concrete structures for architectural framing. Inspired by the cycle process of ‘Production–Rental –Repair –Dissolution –Reproduction’, niceworkshop designed FORMAT’s aluminum formworks part of its new furniture series.
