Inspired by seashells, this work is formed by fragmenting mother-of-pearl and applying it onto an aluminum plate, building a surface through the accumulation of small pieces. The irregular fragments create subtle shifts in light and texture, changing with the viewing angle.
Inspired by the radial growth of seashells, this work translates organic texture into an industrial aluminum surface. The plates form planes and are applied as surfaces across different furniture pieces.
Roham Shamekh and NICEWORKSHOP present the Ovo Man Seashell Bench, a limited-edition collectible design created for Design Miami Seoul 2026. Reinterpreting Roham Shamekh's iconic Ovo Chair (2020), the collaboration transforms the original sculptural chair into a two-person bench, expanding its sculptural language while preserving the essence of the Ovo series.
Originally created in 2020 by Roham Shamekh Studio, the Ovo Chair takes its name from the Latin word Ovum, symbolizing life, fertility, and creation. The design explores the harmony of opposing forces, revealing how light and darkness, masculine and feminine, life and death, and the physical and spiritual exist not in conflict, but in balance.
For this edition, the original silhouette evolves into a sculptural bench inspired by the beauty of the ocean. Crafted in silver-colored aluminum, handcrafted seashell motifs enrich the surface, celebrating artisanal craftsmanship while creating a dialogue between nature, material, and contemporary design.
Designed as both functional seating and collectible sculpture, the Ovo Man Seashell Bench invites people to sit together, share a moment, and experience connection. Created through the collaboration between Roham Shamekh and NICEWORKSHOP, the limited edition brings together sculptural design, architectural form, exceptional craftsmanship, and the poetic language of the ocean.
